Spirit Animal for Michelle
Four years ago a dear friend was diagnosed with stage 4 Melanoma. Before and during her treatments we spent time in nature together, walking in the open spaces, hills and neighborhoods. We took time to notice and connect with the trees, the creeks and the birds. We spoke of meditation, spirituality, love, meaningful connection and death. Our friendship and deep connection began when she shepherded my two children through preschool. Her steady support through times of joy and challenge was unwavering. Always interested in the updates on their development, this continued to bring her amazement and amusement.
When the treatments intensified I journeyed to bring Michelle a spirit animal to accompany her on this arduous and emotional path she now walked. I Journied to a familiar place and met a stunning tiger who was swimming in a river. I connected to the spirit of this tiger as it imparted its majesty, power and fortitude to me for Michelle. I shared with her the details of the Journey and an image of this tiger swimming. We discussed its meaning and significance for her related to her current health crisis.
She shared with me how this was meaningful for her as a point of focus during challenging times. Calling up the ferocity, strength, power and beauty at times when she needed the reminder.
Michelle passed from this earthly life yesterday. The day was filled with sunshine and closed with a spectacular and colorful sunset. Many hearts are broken by the loss of her kind and beautiful spirit. I will hold the tiger close with the knowing that my bond with Michelle will continue and we will meet in the mountains and hills in my meditations.
